FREE events for National Women's Health Week

During National Women's Health Week (NWHW) each year, millions of women take steps to improve their health. The week serves as a reminder for women to make their health a priority and build positive health habits for life. The 19th annual National Women's Health Week kicks off on Mother's Day, May 13, and is celebrated through May 19, 2018. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women’s Health leads National Women’s Health Week to encourage all women to be as healthy as possible.

Vitality Women’s Physical Therapy and Wellness is celebrating NWHW for the 4th year by hosting FREE coffee talks and a prenatal yoga workshop. We are inviting women to take time to learn about common conditions women face through their lifetimes and how they can address them.

Monday, May 14th from 9:30-10:30am, Katherine Ireland, PT, DPT, CLT will be discussing a problem that affects an estimated 1 in 3 women: urinary incontinence. In “Don’t Make Me Laugh! How to treat and prevent urinary leakage” she will share tips and tricks on bladder health as well as exercises women can begin to help strengthen their pelvic floor muscles to assist in treating and preventing this common problem.

On, Wed, May 16th from 9:30-10:30am, Katherine will be giving another FREE talk , “Why I Hurt. The “Core” Connection to Back, Hip, and Knee Pain”. Abdominal and pelvic floor muscle weakness can contribute to pain throughout our bodies, notably in our lower body, as we attempt to be physically active. In this talk, women will learn about how it is all connected and how to begin exercise to help prevent and treat these common aches and pains through core stabilization.

Finally, at Vitality we are inviting area moms-to-be to join Annie Cumming, PT, DPT, RYT for a Prenatal Yoga Workshop. In this FREE workshop from 9:30-11am on Thurs, May 17th, she will review physical changes in pregnancy and the importance of strength and flexibility exercise during this time frame. This lecture will be followed by a prenatal yoga class that will promote beneficial modifications in pregnancy.
